It’s been 9 days since I last sat down to write. First, we went to a weekend wedding and had the best time and so I didn’t write anything. Then we came home and I was immediately struck with a cold which hasn’t been all that bad but had me really tired and uninspired. I treated myself to a few days off. And now I’m back! Sort of.
I’m feeling better and my fever is gone but I still have a runny nose and a brain that works at half speed. But my inspiration is coming back which I noticed when I started pinteresting different project I want to do around the house this summer. Are you the same - is your creativity level a reflection of your mental capacity?
During my sickness I’ve taken to Youtube as I don’t have any shows to catch up on currently and also because I have an ability to really go down a rabbit hole once I find someone I enjoy watching. Lately it’s been this Swedish couple called Ribecka and Martin who have built not one but two (!) surf vans/buses to live in. They are currently renovating their new house and the process is truly a delight to follow. What I appreciate the most is that they seem so sweet with each other and see every hurdle as a challenge to face together. I can’t believe the patience, dedication, love and understanding they show each other through both ups and (major) downs. Do we still use #couplegoals?
If you have any tips on great youtubers, please share as I’ll be spending at least one more day on the couch.
Okay so when I’m not looking at the big screen I’m looking at inspiration for our apartment on the small screen. I’ve been really into finding fun little projects that I can do while my love works this summer (he saves his vacation for spring/autumn as those are the best climbing months). I want to make our apartment feel more like a home with some hand painted doors, a few photographs in frames and more textiles overall. I’m so excited to really find a colour theme for each room and scout for things second hand that fit the vibe.

Going back to school again was probably the best thing I could have done for my creativity as I’ve been able to awaken a part of myself that I at one point thought would stay dormant forever after a bad work situation. But I’m glad to say I’m back in the sadle when it comes to graphic design, art direction and branding. I find it infinitely interesting to assess different branding choices, dream about styling and directing shoots and find a way to market through different channels than Instagram (bleh). If anyone wants to toss any ides around my inbox is always open, but I’m also creating something with my brilliant sister/architect/interior designer/creative director which I hope to be able to share more about soon. We simply want to share our thoughts, experiences, lessons and words to live by (that we’ve gained from other brilliant minds) in an inspiring and motivating manner. Would you be interested in an online course like that?
I’m currently reading Fresh Water for Flowers (Färskt vatten till blommorna) by Valérie Perrin and so far I love it. It reminds me of the way Anna Gavalda writes, especially in Hunting and Gathering (Tillsammans är man mindre ensam). There’s a certain melancholy that doesn’t lean too sweet, if you know what I mean, and that I recognize from my own life in times of solitude and contemplation. I love getting to know the main character little by little, although intimately. I’m also very drawn to the shifts in focus and storyline which prohibits any sense of boredom or dullness. Fresh Water for Flowers is a refreshing, intimate and thought-provoking book which I look forward to continue reading. Have you read it? No spoilers!!
Next week we’ll be travelling to Bornholm where my sister and herr family lives to celebrate midsummer and I COULDN’T BE MORE EXCITED. There’s nothing I want more than to hold my nephew in my arms and feel his little hands on my cheeks. As there is no telling whether we’ll be met with 25 degrees and sunshine or 5 degrees and rain - and my sister will have her new puppy there - I will be packing sensibly (for being me). The moodboard is as follows:
