Whether you want to admit it or not, wedding season is quickly headed our way. Fortunately for me, my friends aren’t really in marriage-stages of their lives yet so I don’t have to worry about finding outfits or, god forbid, paying for a bridesmaid’s dress that I secretly hate this summer. But I know a lot of you do. And if it’s not a wedding there’s bound to be a graduation or baptism or something that has you scouring the web for something floral or pastel that still feels like *you*.
This post is not that.
I thought since everybody is already doing the “5 dresses for wedding season” I’d skip that this year and get straight to the good stuff. The actual wedding! Yes, you read that right. I’m going full delulu and planning your wedding for you. You’re welcome.
The spring wedding
Aaah the sweet innocence of a spring wedding. I’m getting Charlotte York vibes, Paris vibes, cherry blossom vibes, tulle vibes. But like, still cool. A Danish girl in a silk chiffon dress with a diamond earring and a bouquet of baby’s breath. If you want a spring wedding I feel lik you’re probably a virgo. Or a type A. In the best way. And you never have fly-aways.
The invitation
Something classic and understated on heavy weight paper. Serif fonts only. Add a personal touch by signing your own names or tying a raw silk ribbon around each card.
-
The venue
It’s obviously a city wedding, with the dinner at your local favourite restaurant, where they serve the best martinis. There also happens to be a cherry blossom tree right outside, so all photos have little pink petals floating in the air around you and your guests.
-
The dress code
City chic (white allowed). Don’t worry, no one is going to confuse another guest for being the bride considering you’ve only invited your friends and family.
-
The dress
How gorgeous is this sculptural silk dress with puff sleeves? Go big or go home. Literally, because you live just around the corner from the venue. Like I said, no one is going to be confused about who the bride is.
-
The flowers
I’d do baby’s breath, snowdrops, bleeding heart flower or wild roses. All in white or pale pink. Think sweetness and innocence. But like, also cool.
-
The bridesmaids
Either black/navy silk dresses, or different shades of blush/champagne.
-
The food
Let the restaurant serve their signature dish, but not before the guests have gotten an aperitif and some delicious almonds and olives. Trés chic.
-
The cake
Little portion-sized “princess cakes” (a traditional Swedish fika) with whipped cream and marzipan. Or a huge tray of tiramisu. Maybe even some sparklers. Easy-going but still fun and cute in a photo. And easy for the restaurant to prepare in advance.
The summer wedding
Summer is probably the sexiest time to get married because everyone is tan and loosened up and ready to have a good time on the daily. And by summer, I mean like August or September. I feel like a summer wedding should be all about turning up the heat, the volume, the stakes. I want colour and skin and wavy long hair and sand between my toes. You know? A summer wedding is definitely for type B people who don’t mind letting down their hair and dancing barefoot. For those who welcome a surprise flashmob as a natural part of a wedding speech. Or simply for anyone who can’t be bothered to plan for bad weather.
The invitation
A fun hand-painted little card with a personal touch. If you like pasta, do a
and paint tortellinis? If you met at a soccer game, paint a soccer ball. Idk. Make it fun.-
The venue
I’m seeing a wedding in an Italian piazza and then dinner and party at a gorgeous villa in the countryside. But a lot of us aren’t millionaires so just make sure it’s a homey vibe and there’s a dance floor. Maybe you literally just borrow the coolest apartment from a friend of yours and promise to pay for a deep-cleaning afterwards? Or someone has a backyard or something?
-
The dress code
Colour! But to be more specific, maybe something like Sunset Soirée? I’m thinking sunset colours can be really fun for dresses - but it’s also like “dress in something you can see yourself dancing into the sunset in”.
-
The dress
This would probably not be everyone’s cup of tea but I am *really* loving the idea of a looser, gauze kind of dress. Something that drags through the grass and just feels really romantic and beachy. But still expensive. Like By Malene Birger. Or this cool brand I just learned about.
-
The flowers
I’m thinking, again, vibrant colours. And things that feel a little funky. Like those flowers that look like p*nises. Combined with peonies like in the moodboard, but also with ranunculus or magnolias.
-
The bridesmaids
I’m thinking anything vintage that is beaded and in bright yet soft colours. Should be an easy find. Obviously joking. Maybe do a search for ‘20s beaded dresses?
-
The food
In the summer we all just want fruit and salty snacks, no? Lots of watermelon, grapes, nectarines, figs, crisps, cornichons, almonds, lomo, you get it. Lots of horny chilis everywhere.
-
The cake
If you’ve ever had Swedish candy then you’ll understand what I mean when I say you should just skip the cake and bring out bowls of candy. If you don’t, maybe go for chocolate truffles? It needs to be sexy and horny. It is summer after all.
This is becoming really long so let’s save autumn and winter for another time! If you thought this was fun, that is. Oh me? I thought it was a blast and now I really want to get married throw a party.
But I must know - are you a spring or a summer?
