I love when writers I follow share a few short thoughts on things they’ve recently seen, read, heard, pondered over or otherwise encountered. It feels like a shortcut into getting to know a lot of those who write here more intimately, which is ultimately what I love most about Substack. I feel a sense of closeness and community that I’ve lacked online for years. Maybe since I stopped using Tumblr?
Anyways, this is supposed to be short so I’ll get on with it. My goal is to provide a sort of personal smörgåsbord with little nuggets from my life. And maybe encourage someone else to do the same? I want to see your screenshots, extracts from funny text conversations with friends, recommendations about anything and everything, and more. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours?
First off, one of my favourite weekly traditions with a close friend of mine. (Almost) every Friday we send a little message to each other to acknowledge the passing of another week and the beginning of the fabulous weekend. This also presents the opportunity to catch up, ask about how the week has been and what our respective plans are for the weekend. Highly recommend!
I’ve decided to start a new knitting project and I think I’m going to go for this cute singlet. It looks easy enough (for me) and my friend who sent me the pattern assured me even I would be able to get through it. Isn’t it so rewarding having a creative project and adopting a beginner’s mindset? Who cares if it ends up full of holes, maybe you’ll use it anyways or you’ll give it to your mum who obviously will never use it but will be proud of you all the same or you just take it apart and use the thread for something different.
Someone in a chat here on Substack asked for tips on how to use scarfs and hats for summer and I found this image which sparked instant joy. Feeling like I need to visit my local thrift shops and bring home a few scarves to wear exactly like this, no?
Another creative project to dip my toes into - embroidering a sun hat with beads. Ugh if I can make it look this good I will be ecstatic. Maybe I’ll begin with the trim and see how I go? Worst case scenario I’ll have to convince my grandma to help me finish it (aka do the whole thing for me).
A small glimpse into my preferred working space: my living room dining table. Unfortunately my boyfriend turned our office into a gamer’s dream (read: my worst nightmare). There is a cables and screens-extravaganza going on that makes me truly depressed and so I’ve taken to other corners of our apartment to get my studies/writing done. Don’t tell him I said this but I actually don’t really mind. Writing at the kitchen table, on the floor by our sofa or by our dining table is giving Carrie Bradshaw in the best way.
And with that I say - Happy Friday!
1. Please share your creations with us. 😍 2. I love wearing my scarves like that. They’re so versatile! 3. I know all about a gaming office 😂 they really need to work on their aesthetics.
I'm right there with you re: a scary man room with lots of cables... bane of my existence
